    Founder Charmaine Burnett wanted to create a natural alternative to commercial hair colours after developing severe psoriasis while using them herself. Inspired by the book “Silent Spring”, she made this dream come true with Desert Shadow, a range of certified organic hair colours and hair treatments creating natural pigments for the hair by using raw plants.

    Since 2008, her range has bought forth a range of all-natural shades of colours that help in repairing dry and damaged hair and can last 4-6 weeks before fading. No more bad hair days!

    Desert Shadow is certified organic by NASAA (National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia) meaning the ingredients are farmed, harvested and processed ethically.     How to use

    Time Required: 

    Organic hair colours do need time to deposit colour onto your hair. Allow yourself some time to sit back and relax whilst your colour develops! For Non Grey coverage allow 1 hour + & for Grey Coverage allow 2 to 3 hours. 

    How much do you need to use?

    • Short hair & root touch ups: 1/2 pack 
    • Medium Hair: 1 pack 
    • Long Hair: 1 to 1.5 packs 
    • Super long hair: 2 to 3 packs 
    • Thick hair: requires an extra 1/4 pack for short hair, 1/2 pack for medium hair & 3/4 for long hair. 

    Suitable for children over 14 years. For younger children, consult your healthcare professional regarding allergies before use.

    We recommend performing a strand test before full application.

    End of life

    Once you have finished your favourite hair dye, both the sachet and box are home recycable or home-compostable.

        Pretty good grey coverage

        "I used Chestnut Shadow, followed by Chocolate Shadow. The coverage was pretty good. Definitely covered all the white/grey (and I am all white now even though I’m only 40.) my only gripe is the result is a bit more red than I wanted. I have heard you can use the indigo toner to fix that though, so I will try that next time.The smell didn’t bother me at all. In my opinion it smells like tea leaves. And yes, I did it twice, with two different sets of dye. The developing does take a long time. I left my dye in for 5 hours with each colour. But I simply covered my hair with gladwrap and then put a beanie over the top and went about my day. No one could tell under the beanie was hair dye and glad wrap lol 😂"
