WHEN WE KNOW BETTER, WE DO BETTER

So many of us are unaware of the game-changing sustainable alternatives that are available. Read more about our products below so you can make your own informed decisions when switching to 100% toxin-free, sustainably packaged, and Australian & NZ Owned products that are better for you, your family, and the planet

Australian Brands?

Fair dinkum rippers, of course!

Australian natural products are making waves on the world stage. We are such an environmentally diverse country and have some of Mother Nature’s most unique ingredients in our very own backyards. Australian brands have taken advantage of these unique ingredients and developed incredibly powerful natural and organic products.

Why would we import a moisturiser over from America when we have unbeatable brands right here? It makes sense to us (and the environment!) to support locally made products and companies.

Right again. We can proudly say that 100% of our products are cruelty-free.

All the brands we sell are 100% owned by Australian and NZ families, and around 90%of products are made in Australia or New Zealand.

Certain products (including stainless steel, silicone and bamboo products) we simply could not find as ‘Made in Australia or New Zealand’. If they are made abroad, they are still designed and owned by an Australian family and made responsibly!

It's our goal to be as much 'Australian or New Zealand made' as possible, so please contact us in case you’d find a locally made alternative for us to assess.  We would love to hear from you: askusanything@goforzero.com.au

To support local families

We only stock products from Australian and New Zealand owned brands to help local families like ours create jobs. 90% of our products are made in Australia too.

It’s only those that lack specific Australian manufacturing facilities that are responsibly made elsewhere.

To cut back on emissions

There are so many sustainable and toxin-free skincare products made in Australia. We wouldn't feel right importing skincare from elsewhere due to the additional carbon emissions that would be produced on their journey here.

Regulations

With skincare different countries have different regulations on what companies are allowed to put inside products, what has to be listed on the label, and how their products can be tested. By only stocking Australian and New Zealand skincare brands we avoid any nasties sneaking through the loopholes!

1. Packaging

Firstly, we assess the packaging that each product comes in. All of our products must be sustainably packaged in reusable, compostable or easily recyclable material that contains little to no plastic. (read why we avoid plastic below).

2. Family behind the brand

We look at the family (creators) behind each brand. Do they live in Australia? what are their values? do they support a cause? are they passionate about sustainable and/or natural living? will they ship to us plastic-free? why did they start making the products that they offer?

It's so important for us to know as much as we can about the passionate people behind each brand. Whilst browsing products you can read more about the brand story by clicking on the 'family behind the brand' tab.

3. Ingredients

All of our products are 100% toxin-free. Ellie (our founder) is a toxin identifying whiz, if unsure The EWG is her go-to. This is her ingredient bible AKA the strictest toxin-free criteria on the market. Each ingredient is ranked according to its affect on human skin and health. Ellie spends hours researching each individual ingredient to ensure it is safe for you and your family so you don't have to!

4. Testing

We test every single product before it lands on our website. If we don't love something, why would we sell it?! For products that are a little hard for us to truly test (like reusable nappies), we call in the troops, sisters, friends, cousins, anyone with a bub and honest opinion to test for us. Ellie's hubby has tried his fair share of natural mens deo's!

5. Vendor list

We have a list of questions that each brand must complete. From whether their products are cruelty-free or suitable for all skin types, to how they manage the waste in their office/factories. It's so important for us to know what we are supporting by having their products in our store.

Order time!

If products comply to all of the above, we jump around in circles and place our order. You should have seen our reaction to discovering our first zero waste natural sunscreen...

It's so exciting discovering brands and products that are leading the way for a more sustainable future! We hope you love our selection as much as we do.

Toxin-Free Products

The reality is that most of us don’t know what we put on our skin or use in our homes every day. We are not to blame. The personal care industry lacks regulation regarding labelling, safety and transparency.

We have checked every ingredient using the research-based EWG criteria. We are mad researchers and can’t get enough of it.  Go For Zero is the strictest toxin-free retailer in Australia, and we take that personally. If we would not use it on our own children, we will not sell it to you.

Disclaimer: Unfortunately we are yet to come across a 100% toxin-free nail polish. However we've hunted down safer brands that have avoided the 10 worst chemicals found in mainstream polishes. The result: a polish that is safer for you & the planet without compromising on performance. Shop our rangehere.

Glass, aluminium, and metals can be recycled infinite amount of times without losing their quality. Unlike plastic which can only be recycled 1-2 times before it is sent to landfill!

Unfortunately people have the mindset that plastic is ok because it can be recycled. The reality is that, only 9% of plastics are recycled (or should we say down-cycled?!). We were shocked when we learnt this too. Which is why we have super strict packaging guidelines (must be reusable, compostable, or easily recyclable with little to no plastic). We constantly challenge our suppliers to provide greener packaging solutions too!

To make it easier for you, we've added a filter to our site that lets you shop by packaging: zero waste, reusable, and low waste. Shop now and check it out!

Ingredients

According to the Palm Oil Investigations, around 50% of items we regularly use/consume contain ingredients derived from Palm Oil. It is disguised under dozens and dozens of different names and is often a big cause of deforestation in tropical countries. You can read more about the issue with Palm Oil on Sunbutters blog here. This is why avoiding palm-oil is super important to us.

Our products are palm oil free, however 2 of our suppliers have issues with Palm Oil derivatives (Woohoo and Sunbutter). They provide open information about these ingredients, which are Isoamyl Laurate and Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer that can be made from either coconut oil OR certified sustainable palm oil as their supplier switches from time to time depending on the availability of ingredients.

They are still getting to the bottom of that but we are grateful that they are transparent with us so we can be transparent with you.

How do you donate to charities?

i=Change

We've partnered with i=change. Which means $1 from every go for zero online sale will support one of the following Aussie projects that our customers can choose from:

Clean up trash from the ocean: $1 removes 1.2kg of plastic and debris from the sea with Seabin.

Restore the land: $50 plants enough trees and shrubs to store 1 tonne of carbon dioxide with Greening Australia.

Feeding Aussies in Crisis: $1 provides 2 meals to an Aussie in need with Food Bank.

You can track our live impact here ♡

Terracycle

We collect hard to recycle items and send them off to Terracycle to be given a new life.

So far we have saved 10,000 coffee pods from landfill!

Check out what you can drop off to our Moffat Beach warehouse to be recycled here.

Every time we send Terracycle used goodies we earn money to donate to a charity of our choice, isn’t that AWESOME?! These charities support so many sustainable initiatives from saving wildlife, planting trees, picking up rubbish, demanding climate action, and more!

It feels good, to do good!

Prices & Affordability

Yes, definitely. It’s our aim to make natural Australian products available for everyone, so we conduct extensive searches to also find budget-friendly products that are safe and highly effective.

The natural products we carry don't have any cheap fillers but have a high concentration of ‘active ingredients' that are truly beneficial for you. You’ll experience you need to use much less product to achieve superior results compared to regular products (that can contain up to 80% water).

Your Vision of the Future

I founded this company based on the core values of community, transparency and education. My mission is to get sustainable & safe Australian products into every Australian household, provide honest information and help to reduce waste in any way we can.

Let’s create a better and safer future, together. Thank you for being a part of our mission.

A lot, ha ha ha

We add new Aussie sustainable brands weekly to our website so make sure you are subscribed here and follow us on social media to see how to use the products.

We are a carbon neutral company now but my dream is to be a carbon negative. The carbon in our atmosphere has created a blanket of gas that traps heat and is changing the world’s climate. For us, to become Carbon Negative, we would remove more CO2 from the atmosphere than we emit. We are working on a plan which will include offsetting our staffs emissions to drive to work, we are looking at building a new warehouse to install solar panels, etc. More to come about this soon!

We are looking into updating our loyalty program, YAY. We know you have been amazing advocates for helping to create a clearer and better world and we want to reward you for taking the journey with us ♡

In the meantime, ask us anything. You will always get an honest answer.
