Happy Keep Australia Beautiful Week, everyone! Running from August 5th to 11th, this year’s theme is all about making sure that when you’re out and about, leave only your footprints. Whether you’re just hearing about it now or have been participating since day one, there’s still time to get involved and make a difference!

Keep Australia Beautiful Week isn’t just another week on the calendar. It’s a nationwide call to action—a reminder that our daily choices impact the environment around us. From the trash we generate to the ways we dispose of it, every small action adds up. This week serves as a wake-up call to be more mindful and take responsibility for our beautiful country, not just for a week, but all year long.

How to Get Involved...

Option 1: Start a solo mission

Sometimes, the best way to make a difference is to start with yourself. Here’s how you can contribute:

• BYO Everything: Bring your own coffee cup, water bottle, takeaway containers, smoothie cup, and straw to cut down on single-use items.
• Pick Up Litter: As you stroll through your neighbourhood or local park, pick up any litter you see and dispose of it properly, this is such a great habit to create! 
• Educate Yourself: Check out the Keep Australia Beautiful Week blogs, as well as our sustainable living blogs to learn more about the impact of plastic and organic litter on biodiversity, as well as top tips and tricks to combatting them too!
• Test Your Knowledge: Take the Litterbug Quiz to see if there are ways you can improve your habits, we just did it, it was actually pretty fun!

Option 2: Gather your team of eco warriors... 

If you're more of a social butterfly, team up with your efforts and consider these group activities:

• Join a Clean-Up: there might be an event in your local area, school, or workplace.
• Fundraise: Kick off a fundraiser at your school or workplace and donate the proceeds to Keep Australia Beautiful, get creative with it!
• Attend Events: Contact your state’s KAB organisation, local council, or community groups to see what events are happening near you.
• Volunteer with Landcare: Join a Landcare Volunteer Groupas part of Landcare Week to help regenerate your local area.

Option 3: Shout it from the tree tops!

• Register Your Efforts: Whether you’re going solo or rallying a group, register your activities with Keep Australia Beautiful to let them know what you’re doing.
• Share Your Impact: Post about your conservation efforts on social media using the hashtags #KeepAustraliaBeautifulWeek, #KABWeek, #LeaveOnlyFootprints, and more.

As we move into the second half of Keep Australia Beautiful Week, let this be a reminder that there’s still time to get involved.
