A reef-safe revolution 

In 2016, marine biologists and conservation ecologists Sacha Guggenheimer and Tom Hiney found themselves in a tricky spot while working at Ningaloo Reef, a stunning World Heritage site in Western Australia. They needed to protect their skin while swimming with whale sharks but realised the sunscreens available were harming the very reefs they were so passionate about preserving. Driven by their love for the ocean and a need for eco-friendly sun protection, they created SunButter—Australia’s first reef-safe sunscreen, packaged in reusable tins and packed with SPF50 goodness!

Fast forward to today, and SunButter has become a symbol of everything we love: skin-friendly, ocean-friendly, and eco-friendly. From their popular natural sunscreen to their plastic-free surf zinc and hydrating after sun products, SunButter’s range continues to expand with the same mission—protect people and the planet.

More than just sunscreen...

SunButter recently joined forces with thousands of other eco-champions to oppose a massive oil and gas exploration proposal for the Otway Basin. And guess what? THEY WON! Thanks to the voices of people like you and eco-conscious brands like SunButter™, the proposal was officially withdrawn, marking a huge victory for marine life and coastal communities.

We couldn’t be prouder to stand with SunButter and celebrate this win! Their commitment to protecting our oceans goes beyond just providing reef-safe products—they’re actively fighting to ensure future generations can enjoy the beauty and biodiversity of our seas.
