How to use

Method 1: Melt + Brush

You will need:

  • 1 bar of wax
  • An ovenproof container
  • Light cotton fabric (you can repurpose old cotton t-shirts for example. Homespun or calico is ideal)
  • 1 sheet of baking paper (bigger than your piece of fabric) You can use our reusable baking mats for this method!
  • 1 pastry brush
  • Clothes-line (or something to hang on) + pegs

Place your bar of wax in an oven proof container and put it into a preheated oven at 180 degrees. Let fully melt (2-3 minutes).

While your wax is melting, lay your baking paper on a flat surface and place a piece of cotton fabric on top. Use your pastry brush to paint melted wax evenly across the cotton surface.

Once you have a nice, even (and thin) coat of wax, remove from baking paper and hang to dry.

Method 2: Grate + Iron

You’ll need:

  • 1 bar of wax
  • Grater
  • Light cotton fabric (homespun or calico is ideal)
  • Iron + ironing board (or flat surface)
  • Towel or old cloth to protect your ironing board or table
  • 2 sheets of baking paper (bigger than your piece of fabric)
  • Clothes-line (or something to hang on) + pegs

Place an old towel or cloth on your ironing board or table. Place your fabric on top of one sheet of baking paper and grate a thin layer of wax onto the fabric.

Cover with the other sheet of baking paper and turn on iron to the hottest setting with no steam. Iron the baking paper and fabric sandwich in slow, circular movements.

The wax will melt and spread itself evenly across the fabric making any uncovered sections obvious to the eye. Lift the paper to check the consistency and make sure the entire piece of fabric is coated.

If you have dry patches or your wrap is too thin, grate more wax on these areas and repeat. To prevent cracking, the trick is to keep the mixture as thin and consistent as possible.

Remove the fabric from the baking paper and hang it up to dry.

Zero Waste Tip: Keep baking paper and reuse for future re-waxing events.
