PERFECT FOR APARTMENT LIVING | COMPOSTS MEAT, FISH & DAIRY | NO BAD ODOURS | MADE FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC | PRODUCES GARDEN FERTILISER | FOR EASY COMPOSTING | MADE IN AUSTRALIA

Looking for a convenient, easy-to-use kitchen composter that doesn’t attract flies or produce any bad odours that linger in the air of your home? The Urban Composter’s City Composter is a match for you.

This 8L composter is small enough to fit under a sink and sleek enough to sit on the bench. Making it perfect for couples, small families and apartment living. It holds up to 8 litres of waste and will turn just about anything into nutrient-rich fertiliser for your garden, including: meat (no bones tho’), fish, vegetables, fruit, dairy, coffee and wilted flowers. This is awesome because not all composting systems can accept meat, dairy or fish! *woot woot*.

Did we mention the urban composter is made from recycled plastic?! It comes with an airtight lid meaning no pesty flies and yucky smells will hover in your kitchen. Find more FAQ's here too.

Do you need the accelerator spray? Without the spray you are at the mercy of whatever microbes are naturally around (so it can give off a smelly mess). The accelerator culture is the best mix of microbes out there for this purpose, it helps to speed up the process too. Please note the accelerator spray is not included.

Aussie Family behind the brand

Luke Gregory is the creative force behind Urban Composter. While studying Industrial Design at university, Luke’s passion for the environment and frustration with food waste inspired him to rethink kitchen composting. He wanted a solution that was simple, stylish and actually used, even in busy family homes and kitchen spaces.

Drawing on his design skills and environmental values, Luke developed a unique composting system that uses a citrus-based spray with effective micro-organisms, avoiding messy traditional bokashi bran and reducing flies and pests. His first prototype was designed to look great in a kitchen, fit under sinks, and make composting easy for everyday families.

What started as Luke’s idea has grown into a small family-owned business that now manufactures its products in Australia and shares them with households around the world.

How to use

  1. Continuously add your kitchen scraps to your Urban Composter
  2. Spray with the Urban Composter Accelerator Spray
  3. Drain the liquid produced from these fermented scraps every couple of days and add it to your garden and indoor plants as a free super vitamin booster! Draining allows your scraps to ferment instead of rot.
  4. Mix the juice with water using a 1:100 ratio and use it to fertilise the garden.
  5. You can also use it as an organic drain cleaner!
  6. At the end of the 2 week process (when using the accelerator spray), add the pulp to the compost patch or worm farm outside.

End of life

These buckets are designed to last a long time, if you can no longer reuse it for food waste, they make great pot plant holders!

Love it so much I bought a second one!

"It works so well!! I have a small house and no room for a proper compost bin outside, so I bought this last year. I am so happy with it. It works great! The only thing is that we go through so much food scraps that it filled up so quickly and I have to wait a week before I could empty and fill it again. So I have now bought a second one, so that I can fill up the second one while the first one has another week to fully decompose!"

Great composter for in your kitchen cupboard

"I think this is a great little composter for small homes, with no opportunity for an outdoor compost bin. I went with the small 8L composter. However, myself and my 3 year old daughter go through a lot of fresh fruit and veggies, and I have found that it takes us less then a week to fill it to the brim, and then we have to wait at least a week for it to reduce before I can empty it. So I wish I had chosen the bigger size bin. We do use the accelerator spray, which is easy in use and makes for a NO-smell compost bin! Note: I have used the 'compost tea' to fertilize my plants, and also to clean my drains. Perfect! Feels good to make most of it!"
