Hi Amanda, I am so sorry to read that you were not happy with this product. Both ourselves & our supplier have never had this sort of feedback about the smell; however, all of our smells are different & I can imagine that the smell would have put you off which is totally understandable! In this product, there is a small % of an ingredient used called Fenugreek which could be giving you that smell. The reason this ingredient is used in this product is because it is supposed to give your hair a nice smooth, slippery feel and will help with healthy hair growth + keeping the scalp in a good condition. It was also mentioned about the consistency. The Desert Shadow products are kept in their raw form to avoid the use of any preservatives. This means they come in a powder form which, when mixed, may be a little grainy. We like to think of it as a mud pack for the hair, their products are very different to your conventional style hair treatments in that they do not have any silicones or other nasty ingredients. They look, feel and smell different but are 100% organic and with regular use can be really beneficial for your hair and scalp. Our hair is made of keratin which is not a living cell. Once damaged it is not able to be repaired to its original state, most conventional cream treatments would add silicone to their product to give the illusion of the hair being repaired when actually it just forms a coating.
