A Cafe that Helps you Repair Items for Free...

August 27, 2020 1 min read

The Repair Cafe Initiative

In 2019, the Repair Cafe diverted over 250,000kg of waste from landfill.

The Repair Cafe is all about repairing what you have before buying something new! They aim to challenge our throwaway culture, reduce the amount of valuable items that head to landfill, avoid additional CO2 emissions, and enhance community connections.

The circular movement began in 2007 in the Netherlands. Since then it has spread to over 1,500 locations worldwide, including 18 in Australia! The Repair Cafes are not-for-profits that are entirely run by volunteers who are passionate about the environment.

How it works

The Repair Cafes hold 'repair sessions' where you can go and have free access to tools and materials to make repairs on furniture, clothes, appliances, bicycles, crockery, toys, and more! Volunteers have repair skills in all kinds of fields and offer visitors their free expert advice and helping hands.

Find your nearest repair cafe here, there's one in each Aussie state!

We need more places like this to help fight the throwaway culture. Share this with a friend who would love to visit, volunteer at or start their own Repair Cafe!
