Meat-free Sausage Rolls

Yep, we went there, crossed the line, and made a twist to the classic, the favourite…the sausage roll.

While the classic sausage roll and sauce has always been among the favourites, many of us are conscious of our meat consumption and simply want to find some amazing meat-free meals.

This recipe will not only remove the meat but you’ll know what is inside. Winning!

Want to know the secret ingredient? Walnuts! However, if walnuts aren’t your thing (like me), these don’t taste like walnuts at all.

Walnuts have sooooo many proven health benefits, including being high in antioxidants, plant-based omega 3, anti-inflammatory and assisting gut health and have even been said to reduce blood pressure and the risk of diabetes.

This recipe has been kid, dad, leftover and fail-proof approved! The perfect quick and easy dinner recipe for those nights when you have no idea what to cook.

So preheat those ovens, and let’s get rolling!

Meat-free Sausage Rolls Recipe Go For Zero

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Puff Pastry Sheets
  • 1 brown onion
  • 1 Tbsp Dried oregano
  • 100g Walnuts
  • 90g Rolled Oats
  • 3 Eggs
  • 150g Feta
  • 1 Tbsp Tamari or Soy Sauce
  • 50g Breadcrumbs
  • Milk for brushing
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds for topping (optional)

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees, line your baking tray with your silicone baking mat and set aside.
  2. Chop brown onion into quarters and chop in your food processor. Add dried oregano, walnuts and rolled oats and process for 3-5 seconds. You may need to scrape the sides down a couple of times with a spatula.
  3. Add the eggs, feta, tamari, soy sauce, and bread crumbs and process again for a further 20 seconds until combined.
  4. Cut puff pastry sheets into halves and transfer them to your baking mat lined tray.
  5. Place an even mixture along a third of the side of the pastry and roll!
  6. Brush rolls with milk and sprinkles with sesame seeds.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes until crisp and golden.
  8. ENJOY!
