A 2024 survey shows that 38% of Australians have already switched to low-tox products which is great news considering the harsh ingredients mainstream cleaning products contain. Believe it or not, the cleaning industry is pretty dirty.

A study by the University of Bergen revealed that frequent use of mainstream spray cleaners can reduce lung function at a rate similar to smoking 20 cigarettes a day. Right here in Australia, Asthma Australia found that babies in homes with constant use of certain cleaners had a 37% higher risk of developing asthma by age three. No thanks!

Beside the health impact of harsh cleaning ingredients, we also have a huge waste factor. After we're done wiping and scrubbing, countless chemicals end up in our waterways (with 80,000 to 140,000 potential contaminants identified in Australian wastewater). And as if that’s not enough, plastic packaging from household cleaners often lands in landfills, not recycling bins. Only 19% of plastic packaging is recovered, far below the national 70% target for 2025.

At Go For Zero, we don’t wait for regulations to protect our health or the planet. Instead, we create and stock only safe, waste-free alternatives for your everyday essentials. Now, let's meet one of our bestsellers: the all-natural Dish and Laundry Cleaning Block—a simple, effective way to cut down on chemicals and ditch plastic for good. Let's dive in!

All natural and vegan cleaning block

1. What is the Cleaning Block?

Our Cleaning Block is a 4-in-1, zero-waste bar that replaces multiple household cleaners. It’s solid and concentrated, so there’s no plastic bottle or extra water—just powerful cleaning in a single bar. It’s designed for dishes, laundry, surface cleaning, and even veggie washing. By tackling all four in one product, you reduce clutter, waste and save money!

2. Does the Dish & Laundry Block foam like regular liquid soaps?

Absolutely! Wet your brush, give the block a quick rub, and rich, sudsy foam will form, perfect for tackling dishes, pots, and pans.

3. Can I use it in my dishwasher?

That’s a hard no. The formula foams so well that it can create too many suds and would lead to bubble bonanza. Stick to handwashing with this baby. You can find natural dishwasher tablets here.

Tip: Don't use too much. The block is super concentrated, so a little goes a long way!

All natural solid laundry soap

4. How do I use it for laundry?

Simply grate the block into soap flakes, and pop 1 teaspoon of the grated flakes where you normally add your powder or liquid. You can expect up to 150 loads from one 300g block, saving both money and plastic packaging.

If you don’t feel like grating, cut the soap into 2cm pieces and blend on high speed. It’ll turn into laundry flakes for you to use (and give your blender a quick clean in the process!)

5. Does it work in cold water washes?

Yes! While warm water helps flakes dissolve faster, it is effective for cold washes but just takes a little longer to dissolve. If you are running a short cycle, you can pre-dissolve a small amount in a jar or bottle with warm water. Then, pour that soapy mix into your machine for the same powerful cleaning results.

6. How do I make a surface spray from the block?

Did you know surface sprays contain up to 97% water? I know, pretty crazy!

To turn the cleaning block into a surface spray, just dissolve 1 teaspoon of grated flakes in 500 mL of warm water, stir it, and pour it into a spray bottle. Use any old spray bottle you have at home, but if you need a spray bottle, check out our reusable amber spray bottle for a pretty and sustainable option. You’ll have a multi-purpose cleaner ready to tackle countertops, tables, and more!

One 300g cleaning block will make roughly 170 bottles’ worth of cleaning spray. Now that is saving waste and money!

7. Can I really clean my produce with a solid soap block?

You bet! Just add a pinch of flakes to a bowl of water before rinsing your fresh produce. It won’t leave a soapy aftertaste!

8. How does the Dish & Laundry Block help reduce waste?

Our bestselling cleaning block is solid and highly concentrated, removing the need for single-use plastic bottles that are mostly water. You supply the water at home, which lowers shipping emissions and lightens your eco-footprint. With one bar replacing multiple cleaning products, you’ll save space and reduce packaging waste too. Winning!

9. Is the cleaning block vegan?

A: Yes! There are no animal-derived ingredients used.

10. Do you test on animals?

Never. We also don’t sell to countries that require animal testing, and never will!

Final thoughts

The upfront cost might seem higher compared to traditional cleaning liquids, but the longevity of this solid block is where the real magic happens. Each block lasts significantly longer, reducing the number of products you need to buy (and toss). Plus, you're cutting all harsh ingredients, just with one swap!

We’re here to help you live cleaner with less waste. If you have any other questions, please never hesitate to reach out to askusanything@goforzero.com.au. And if you wonder why this block is so popular, you can read the reviews here.

Lots of love,
