Are you looking to embrace a greener future? In a world driven by the urgency of combating climate change, opting for green energy is a powerful step you can take to make a positive impact.
What is Green Energy?
Green energy, often referred to as renewable energy, is produced using sustainable resources that are natural, abundant and can be continually replenished. Green energy sources include sunlight, wind, water, and even the heat within the earth.
What are the Benefits of Green Energy?
1. Environmental Benefits
By choosing a green energy provider, you're helping pave the way for a cleaner and healthier planet. The environmental advantages of green energy are immense. Unlike fossil fuels which emit harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change, green energy generates electricity with minimal to no emissions. By cutting down on greenhouse gases, we're also assisting in the prevention of events like bushfires, droughts, and floods.
Embracing green energy will also boost your health and well-being. According to Doctors for the Environment Australia, reducing our greenhouse gas emissions will have a remarkable impact on the quality of the air we breathe. This means we’re rolling out the welcome mat for healthier lungs, hearts, and overall wellness.
3. Cost Benefits
Embracing green energy isn't just a hug for our planet – it's also a high-five for our wallets! A common misconception is that green energy is expensive. However, the tides are turning. Over the years, advancements in technology and increased adoption have led to a drop in the cost of renewable energy production. In fact, the cost of solar power has decreased by about 88% in the last decade, making green energy increasingly affordable.
The not-so-great side of green energy
Green energy may be a better option than fossil fuels, but it’s important to recognise that green energy isn’t always completely free from pollution. One of the largest issues facing green energy is how resources such as solar panels or wind turbines are disposed of at the end of their life. The good news is that with ongoing research there will hopefully be a solution to this problem.
A team of engineers from UNSW Sydney have recently developed a new solar panel recycling process. This recycling process is much more efficient than traditional solar panel recycling methods, in fact, this process can recover up to 99% of the materials. Isn’t that amazing?
