Every year around this time, the same kind of gift guide starts popping up: "ten things every dad will love." As if every dad is roughly the same bloke.
He's not. My own dad would rather get a new tool for the veggie patch than a novelty mug, and I know plenty of guys who'd take a good deodorant over both. So instead of one big list, we've grouped this year's Father's Day picks around who he actually is: the Cooking King, the Adventurer, the Garden Guru and the Smell Good Guy.
We didn't invent these four categories out of nowhere. After years of stocking gifts for dads, they're the ones that keep coming up. Some dads live in the kitchen. Some live outdoors. Some are happiest with dirt under their fingernails. And some just want to smell good and feel put together without much fuss.
None of that means he only fits one box, by the way. Plenty of dads are a bit of everything! Think of these as a starting point, not a personality test he has to pass.
If he's the one manning the barbecue, brewing something in the pantry, or reorganising the spice rack (again), the Cooking King doesn't need more stuff. He needs better tools for what he's already doing.
Our BUCHI Home Brew Kit is one of our favourites for this one. It's a proper hobby gift that makes five litres of homemade kombucha, with certified organic ingredients. Plus, the culture can be reused over and over so it's not a one-and-done gift!
If he's more of an everyday-in-the-kitchen kind of guy, the reusable silicone baking mats ($28.95) are a practical swap. Every roast or batch of biscuits is one less sheet of baking paper in the bin.

The Adventurer dad is out the door most weekends, hiking, fishing, camping, or just pottering around outside longer than he probably should.
SunButter's reef-safe SPF50 sunscreen is a great upgrade from whatever's been sitting in the car since last summer. It's broad spectrum, non-greasy, and wont harm our reefs or marine life when he goes swimming!
Pair it with the Beauty and the Bees' Bugged Outdoor Balm, a natural insect repellant balm that can live in the glovebox, or an insulated drink bottle (if his current one has seen better days haha) and activated charcoal water filter for fresh tasting water on the go! Small things, but the kind he'll actually use on every trip.

If his Sunday mornings are spent in the garden rather than the kitchen, this is the category for him!
An Urban Composter Bucket is a useful upgrade for anyone serious about their garden. It composts meat, fish and dairy without the smell issues a lot of backyard bins have, and turns kitchen scraps into fertiliser for his own veggie patch.
For something smaller and more playful, Seed Starter Kits and Cards or a Kitchen Herbs Grow Kit are easy, low-cost wins, especially if he keen to grow his own food.

This is the dad whose bathroom cabinet is worth a closer look: aerosol deodorant, a disposable plastic razor he replaces every few weeks, shower gel in a bottle that's not going anywhere good. None of that's his fault. It's just what's easiest to grab off the shelf.
That's exactly the gap our reusable safety razor fills! It's a proper metal razor built to last years, not weeks, and you only ever replace the blade with a pack of refills!
Add in a Core 3-in-1 shampoo, shave and body bar that does three jobs in one compostable bar, or natural deodorant stick, and he's got a better bathroom routine without needing to think about it every morning.

| Type of Dad | Top Pick | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking King | BUCHI Home Brew Kit | A genuine hobby, not another gadget |
| Adventurer | SunButter Reef-Safe Sunscreen | Replaces whatever's expired in the car |
| Garden Guru | Urban Composter City Composter | Turns scraps into fertiliser, odour-free |
| Smell Good Guy | Reusable Safety Razor | Built to last years, not weeks |
Honestly, most dads are. If you're stuck, go with what he's replaced the most this year, a worn-out razor, empty deodorant or even a dead herb pot, and start there! That's usually the clearest sign of what he'll actually use.
However he spends his Saturday mornings, over a barbecue, up a hiking trail, elbow-deep in the garden, or just getting ready for the day, the best Father's Day gift is the one that becomes part of what he already does.

Practical, everyday swaps make the best sustainable Father's Day gifts, things like a reusable safety razor, a solid shampoo and body bar, or a home composter. They fit into his existing routine and replace something disposable he's already buying.
Look at what he's likely to run out of or replace soon, a razor, deodorant, sunscreen, rather than adding a new item to the shelf. Consumable, everyday essentials are genuinely useful even for dads who feel hard to buy for.
Yes, though it can take a week or two for skin to adjust after switching from an antiperspirant. Formulas like Woohoo's extra strength stick are designed specifically for stronger odour protection and are a popular swap for men.
A safety razor is a reusable metal razor that only needs the blade replaced, rather than the whole plastic cartridge. It's a bigger upfront cost than disposables but works out cheaper, and far less wasteful, over time.
Options under $30 include a reusable insect balm, a veggie patch starter kit, a natural deodorant stick, or reusable silicone baking mats. All make thoughtful, useful gifts without the price tag of a full gift set.
